## The ellipse

In this lesson you’ll learn the definition of the ellipse both as a conic section and as a geometric locus. Besides, you’ll see the main steps to get to its equation in canonical form, that is when the curve is centred at the origin of a rectangular system. Then, you’ll learn how to define its parameters, the relations between them and the eccentricity. You’ll also see some examples in the cases of horizontal and vertical ellipse. Finally, you’ll see the application of the elliptical shape in the fields of architecture and physics.
