The hyperbola

This lesson is based on the study of the hyperbola centred at the origin of a rectangular system. You’ll see the definition of the hyperbola, both as a conic section and as a geometric locus, and the main steps to get to its equation in canonical form, distinguishing between the cases of horizontal and vertical hyperbola. Then, you’ll learn the definition of its parameters, the relations between them, the asymptotes and the eccentricity. You’ll also see the application of the hyperbolic shape in the fields of architecture and physics and finally, how to obtain conic sections by means of light.
